V°.LUMN is a publication made with and for empathy, a work of artistic and literary bricolage and experimentation. It aims to explore the link between the conscious and the subconscious, embracing ambiguity and playing with the unknown. Rooted in different parts of the world and emerging in 52.5200° N, 13.4050° E, V°.LUMN is a bi-annual, interdisciplinary, and multi-language publication curated by Luftmenschen
The installation FLUOROMETRY plays with the perception of space: Adding a new layer to the existing surface, it expands the grid and evokes unconventional perspectives. Isometric patterns manipulate given structures, shift formal boundaries, and introduce a new visual spectrum. The fluorescent orange creates visibility and demands attention from passers-by, inviting them to witness TANZ IM AUGUST.
FLUOROMETRY was designed by audio-visual sculptor Ariel William Orah, architect and urban game designer Ayşegül Dinççağ, as well as artist and graphic designer Ivan Onur Gülecek. Orah and Dinççağ are members of LUFTMENSCHEN – a collective and network of artists, designers, scientists, and entrepreneurs. Rooted in different parts of the world and emerging in 52.5200° N, 13.4050° E, LUFTMENSCHEN aims to embrace the unknown – unveiling potentials and transforming them into new ideas. /// Die Installation FLUOROMETRY spielt mit der Wahrnehmung von Raum: Eine neue Schicht überlagert bestehende Oberflächen und eröffnet unkonventionelle Perspektiven. Luftmenschen Collective C°INFECTION, 2016 Synthetic adhesive tape from various colours. In biological sciences, a coinfection refers to the parallel infection of a human host by multiple pathogens (parasite, virus, bacteria). In order to understand infection, scientists elaborate theories resulting in the illustration of colonisation routes, transmission and dissemination of the microorganisms in the infected body. Such visualisation could resemble aesthetically the journeys performed by humans, and their impact, in current times. Tape installations -like the one created by Aysegul Dinccag and Ariel WIlliam Orah- hold the potential to spontaneously pop up in random places in a matter of minutes and guide visitors through viral-like pathways in an urban setting. Human beings that commute and travel between territories and cultures on a daily basis, like microbes do between species, are often not aware of their impact in the place where they land. Every year, more than 20 million people visit Berlin, and leave behind their tour-guided traces in museums, parks, restaurants and hostels. The latter ones are usually comfortable and relaxing hubs featuring witty names and trendy motifs from past ages. The continuous and bold paths that the tourists draw during their visits, consistently cross and merge with the idiosyncrasy of the locals, who struggle to squeeze their historic paraphernalia in the tight schedules of the so called easyjetters. The every hour-arriving anachronic expectations of historic sightseeing and the current offer to experience expired local ideologies, co-infect a paranoid city with open wounds that are still taking time to heal. Ariel Williams Orah Aysegül Dinccag On behalf of LUFTMENSCHEN After Ten Years Friends Call Us Unkle book is documenting the creative journey of UNKL347, a clothing brand founded in 1996, which opened the door to the local apparel industry in Bandung and Indonesia, which has grown rapidly in the last 10 years. This book attempts to develop a collective societal memory of the art career of UNKL347
IN//N existence was driven by a global conscious to creative and cultural resources. Several countries from developed and developing regions of the world are showing their concern to these matters. They believe that creative resources empower creative industries which delivers major force and incentive into their country's economic development. These creative and cultural industries sector are key engines for job creation, and it is distinguished by the high number of self-employed and creative professionals who work within its numerous fields. Within this positive concern arises, problems in this industry also arise. Lack of financial sector support, business ethics, natural resources abusement, human rights, lack of infrastructure, limitation of growth, and lack of media exposure are few problems that arise in most of regions which concern about this topic.
IN//N ITIATIVE is a EU based (operated in Berlin-Germany) platform which is constantly promoting, supporting, educating and networking Indonesian (and other developing regions) creative potential into the global atmosphere. IN//N works and partners with creative entities, universities, artists, corporations, and other related stakeholders in developing and developed regions. Those activities generate funds, promotion, collaboration, and knowledge supports, dedicated to the enhancement of creative resources in developing regions. Why focus on developing regions? Most of developing regions are still struggling with poverty, population, low education, corruption, and environmental damage. We believe by empowering the creative sectors in developing region will give more concrete contributions (short and long term) to bear these issues. Even though we are focusing on developing region creative development, we also believe that creative creatures have no landscape borders as well. IN//N also has a mission to deliver and promote responsible, ethical, and sustainable value for different layers of global creative industry subjects. We believe by constantly generating collaborations between various creative entities in developing and developed region, IN//N will contribute to the preservation of : heritage, cultural diversity, and living arts while promoting their cultural and economic potentials.
