HANOMANN_O! is a musical persona of Berlin- and Bandung-based sound artist Ariel William Orah. Developed as an ongoing artistic research framed as identity turbulence, the project responds to the emotional friction of living through overlapping social, political, and ecological crises. Drawing from dangdut and Sundanese kasidahan—music Orah grew up with in Bandung, West Java during the 1980s and 1990s—HANOMANN_O! revisits these genres from the perspective of nearly two decades living and working in Germany.

The name combines Hanoman, the monkey king figure known across Asia and central to Indonesian mythology, with the German expression “Mann, oh!”, forming a hybrid identity shaped by migration, translation, and misalignment. Sonically, the project is marked by melancholic vocal lines and minor-key serenades, grounded in traditional polyrhythmic structures and Sundanese scales, and interwoven with electronic and experimental production approaches. It transforms frustration with contemporary polycrises into catharsis and humor, while its lyrics address social and climate injustice from a migrant perspective. The debut EP Diaspora Drama & Euphoria is scheduled for release in late 2026.
